Transform your garden into a haven of fresh greens with our Cultivated Rocket Seeds. Also known as plain rocket, this fast-growing leafy green is beloved for its distinctive peppery flavour and tender texture. Whether tossed in salads, blended into pesto, or used as a pizza topping, cultivated rocket is a versatile addition to your kitchen. Easy to grow and nutrient-rich, it’s perfect for gardeners of all levels.

Rocket can be sown indoors in March and April for spring harvests, or in August and September for harvests during the winter. Sow in fertile soil, a multi-purpose compost is ideal for a successful crop.

SOW: Plant rocket seeds directly into the garden or containers as soon as the soil is workable—usually in early spring (March–April) and again in late summer for a fall crop. Rocket seeds germinate quickly, so you can sow them in successive plantings every 2–3 weeks for a continuous harvest.

HARVEST: Harvest baby leaves as early as 20–25 days after sowing for a tender, mild flavour. For fuller, more robust leaves, wait until 30–40 days after sowing. Regular harvesting by snipping off the outer leaves encourages further growth.

LIGHT: Rocket grows best in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily). It can tolerate light partial shade, especially in warmer climates where some afternoon shade can help prevent bolting.

WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist (but not soggy). Water lightly every 2–3 days, or more frequently during hot, dry spells, ensuring that the soil does not dry out completely between waterings.

SOIL: Use a well-draining, fertile, sandy-loam or loamy soil enriched with organic matter (such as compost).

PLANT SIZE: Cultivated rocket plants typically form a rosette of leaves that can reach 15–25cm in height when mature. However, for salad use, youll usually harvest the leaves when theyre young and tender.

TOP TIP: Sow Rocket seeds at regular intervals, around ever 3-4 weeks, to ensure you have a steady supply to add to your cooking throughout the whole summer.

DISH TO TRY: Rocket, Pear, and Walnut Salad – delicious!
