Bring bold heat and vibrant flavour to your garden with our Jalapeño Hot Chilli Seeds, the ultimate choice for chilli enthusiasts. These fast-growing plants produce abundant, glossy green peppers that ripen to deep red, offering medium heat and rich flavour, perfect for salsas, sauces, and spicy dishes. Ideal for outdoor gardens, pots, or even indoor growing, these seeds make it easy to enjoy fresh, fiery jalapeños year-round.
Chillies need heat, humidity and lots of sunshine to fruit well, and can easily be grown in containers as they take up little space with varieties reaching 60-90cm in height. Sow from indoors from February to April, and harvest from July onwards.
Each packet contains approximately 10 seeds.
SOW: Start the seeds indoors about 8–10 weeks before the last frost (typically in March for temperate regions) using a heat mat if possible, as warmth boosts germination.
SOW: In warmer climates, you can sow them directly outdoors after all danger of frost has passed (usually from May onward).
HARVEST: Peppers are typically ready for harvest 70–90 days after transplanting. Harvest when the peppers have reached their full size (usually 5–8 cm long) and have a firm, glossy appearance. For the classic jalapeno flavour, pick them when they are still green, or allow them to turn red for a slightly sweeter, more robust taste.
LIGHT: Jalapenos thrive in full sun. Ensure they receive at least 8 hours of direct sunlight daily to encourage robust growth and abundant fruiting.
WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist—but not waterlogged—throughout the growing season. Water deeply about once or twice a week, increasing frequency during hot, dry spells. Checking the top inch of soil can help guide you.
SOIL: Plant in a fertile, well-draining, loamy or sandy-loam soil enriched with plenty of organic matter (such as compost).
PLANT SIZE: Plant Size: Jalapeno plants generally grow to about 60–90 cm tall and can form bushy, productive shrubs. Fruit Size: The individual peppers typically reach a length of 5–8 cm.
TOP TIP: For the best chilli crop, grow the seeds in a greenhouse, polytunnel or sunny conservatory. Chillies are ideal growing companions for tomatoes as they like the same growing conditions. To maximise your crop, pick the chillies whilst they are still green and either use at that stage or ripen further in the kitchen. Chillies are great for freezing so can be enjoyed all year round! We like to make ours into a chilli chutney and gift to friends and family to be enjoyed with cheese during the festive season.
DISH TO TRY: Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers – delicious!
