Experience the joy of growing sweet, tender peas with our Second Early Kelvedon Wonder Pea Seeds, a classic variety loved for its flavour and productivity. Perfect for both small gardens and larger plots, Kelvedon Wonder is a second early variety that provides abundant crops of plump, vibrant green pods. These versatile peas are ideal for fresh eating, cooking, or freezing, making them a staple for every home gardener.
Growing to around 50-60cm in height, the Kelvedon Wonder variety can grow without support, and are an ideal choice for growing in containers. The exceptionally sweet variety grow best in a sunny, sheltered spot.
Each packet containers approximately 75 seeds.
SOW: Sow these pea seeds directly into the garden as soon as the soil is workable in early spring—typically from late February to early March in many temperate regions. For best results, choose a cool, early spring window before the weather warms too much.
HARVEST: These peas usually mature about 60–70 days after sowing. Harvest the peas when the pods are plump and tender, often in late spring to early summer (around May to early June), before the peas become overly starchy.
LIGHT: Peas flourish in full sun. Ensure they receive at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and pod production.
WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during germination and pod formation. Water deeply once or twice a week, increasing the frequency during dry spells. Good drainage is essential to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
SOIL: Use a well-drained, fertile, loamy or sandy-loam soil enriched with organic matter such as compost.
PLANT SIZE: Second Early Kelvedon Wonder pea plants typically grow to about 50–60 cm tall. They may require support if they exhibit a climbing habit; otherwise, bush types will remain compact and productive.
TOP TIP: The flowers from Kelvedon Wonder Peas are also edible! Sprinkle over salads for a pretty, eye-catching garnish.
DISH TO TRY: Fresh Pea and Mint Soup – delicious!
