Grow fresh, flavourful spring onions with our White Lisbon Onion Seeds, a trusted favourite among gardeners and chefs alike. Known for their mild, crisp flavour and tender texture, White Lisbon onions are perfect for salads, soups, garnishes, and stir-fries alike. This fast-growing variety thrives in any garden or container, making it an essential addition to your kitchen garden.

Being fairly low maintenance, this onion variety doesn’t need much space or soil, making them perfect for growing in smaller containers or pots. Sow seeds straight into the ground in a sunny site with well-drained soil from spring onwards, crops should be ready to harvest around 10-12 weeks after sowing.

Each packet contains approximately 100 seeds.

SOW: Begin sowing seeds indoors about 8–10 weeks before your last expected frost (typically in late winter, e.g. February–March) to get a head start.

SOW: In milder climates, you can sow them directly into the garden in early spring.

HARVEST: Harvest when the bulbs are small and tender—ideal salad onions are picked before they fully mature into large bulbs. Typically, this is about 10–12 weeks after transplanting (often by late spring to early summer), when the bulbs reach about 2–3 inches (5–8cm) in diameter.

LIGHT: Onions thrive with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Ensure they’re planted in a spot that receives plenty of light to develop sweet, mild flavours.

WATERING: Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water about once or twice a week, adjusting frequency during particularly hot or dry periods. Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.

SOIL: Use a well-drained, fertile sandy-loam or loamy soil enriched with organic matter (like compost).

PLANT SIZE: As a salad onion, they are meant to be harvested when still small and tender—typically around 2–3 inches (5–8cm) in diameter. The foliage will form a clump that can reach about 2030cm in height, but the focus is on the small, crisp bulbs.

TOP TIP: Soaking onion seeds in warm water or compost tea before planting out can improve germination.
